Sun Oct. 25th: New England Walkers Annual Meeting/Potluck and 5K-10K Walk

The 2015 New England Walkers Annual Meeting and traditional potluck will be held on Sunday, October 25th in Groton MA.  Prior to the meeting, there will be a 5K/10K walk on the Rail Trail, starting at 9:30 a.m. from the end of Station Ave. in Groton Center. The event is open to race walkers of all abilities, and is often informally grouped to different paces.

The Annual Meeting will follow at 11 a.m., at the home of Ed and Deborah O’Rourke (978-448-8038), 43 Main St., in Groton Center, across the street from Lawrence Academy. The meeting will include the election of officers and discuss the following:
-Promoting of RW’ing to younger local athletes; getting more local walkers involved
-Booths and Clinics
-Bids for 2016 National races, and the 2016 New England Schedule
-Develop a Task List for future big events
-Helping to recruit more certified officials

Members may suggest other agenda items by emailing Ed O’Rourke (eorourke@geiconsultants.com) prior to the meeting. All are welcome to attend, but only paid members may nominate and vote.

The traditional potluck will follow, around noontime.  Please RSVP to Ed (eorourke@geiconsultants.com) if you plan to attend the meeting and potluck.

Learn to judge the Race Walk. Rules and reading material will be given out ahead of time, brief instruction before the races, then you will have the opportunity to rove among the judges, talk to us and see what we are looking for. Informal discussion group with brunch at out house (3min from track) to follow race if you wish join us. Clinic given by International level Race Walk Judges.

There is no charge for the clinic and you can come for just the beginning, during the 1 mile fun walk or stay for the approximately 1 hr of 10,000m walking. Please e-mail us, so we can send info on rules.

2015 USATF-NE Race Walk Grand Prix Finale, Sunday, Nov.1st

The final USATF-NE Race Walk Grand Prix Race is the USATF-CT 10000m RW Championship. It will be held on Sunday, November 1, 2015, in Clinton, CT at the Peters Recreational Complex Track. Prior to the main event at 9:30 a.m. there will be a 1 Mile Fun Walk open to any level of experience in race walking. (Race entry form attached.)

The final USATF-NE Race Walk Grand Prix Race will be the USATF-CT 10000m RW Championship on Sunday, November 1st in Clinton, CT, at the Peters Recreational Complex Track.

The 10000m Open/Youth/Masters (all Associations welcome) will start at 10:00am. Prior to the main event at 9:30 a.m. there will be a 1 Mile Fun Walk, open to any level of experience in racewalking.

Pepperell Rail 8K/4K Race, Sunday, Sep. 27th

Pepperell Rail 8K/4K Race, Pepperell, MA—The race starts at 10am, rain or shine, behind the Pepperell Braiding Company on Lowell Street.

It’s a relatively flat, out-and-back course (once for the non-judged 4K race, twice for the 8K GP race), with no street intersections.

Parking is available at the Pepperell Braiding Company at 22 Lowell Street, facing the building. Sign up will be at the Harriman’s condo across the street, at 38 Tarbell Street (Unit 3D) by the garage with the orange Honda Element.

No entry fee, but bring something for the pot luck afterwards!

Also, we need a few volunteers at the start/finish line to help record times.
