New England Walkers Place 2nd at USA 5K Race Walk Championships!

Congratulations to our Men’s team of Ed O’Rourke, Nolan Alan, and Bob Keating, for their second place finish — just behind Shore AC — at the 5K Open and Junior Race Walk Championship in Albany NY on Sunday, May 31.

Ed O’Rourke placed 4th overall and first in the M50-54 division with a time of 26:06. Nolan, 8th overall, was the winner of the USA Junior Men’s 5K Championship in 28:33, and Bob Keating won his M65 division in 28:47.

NEW’s Maegan Allen, Massachusetts scholastic record holder in the 1 mile and 1500 meters, placed a respectable 6th place in the talented field of Junior Women with a time of 29:28.

Conditions deteriorated from overcast and in the upper 60’s at the start to the low 50’s with light rain by the end of the race. Rain became heavy and forced cancellation of the awards ceremony.

The men’s race was won by John Cody Risch in 21:50, and Maria Michta-Coffey was first the women in 21:51 — a new US record.
